Alan Robbins is a professional forester, with a degree from Aberdeen University, who has been practising forestry since graduating in 1975.
In 1984 he founded RTS Ltd, with the remit to provide comprehensive, specialist advice and contracting services on all aspects of woodland and timber management. The company’s activities include woodland design, establishment and maintenance through to the production, distribution and marketing of round timber. The company now has over 25 staff, and has diversified into biomass and woodfuel production, Christmas tree plantations, and renewable energy infrastructure works.
Norman O’Neill has 30 years experience in forest management. He has worked within the forest industry since graduating in 1981, and leads the consultancy and forest management team within RTS Ltd.
Norman has responsibility for forest management on a large number of commercial and native woodland estates throughout Scotland. This involvement provides a valuable link between the design works required for consultancy projects and the delivery of management works on the ground.
He is responsible for RTS’s woodfuel development and operations, including production and sale of conditioned woodchips, and firewood, the latter following the major expansion of firewood sales following the purchase of the Reith Partnership-Wood for Warmth firewood business in 2012.
With 30 years of forest management experience, Harry joined RTS in 2004. His remit and responsibilities include the management of a number of RTS’s managed private woodland estates, and investment portfolios. He has a special responsibility for RTS’ Aboyne office and operations in the north of Scotland, and continuing the forestry service provided by well known North East consultant, Irvine Ross, on his planned retiral.
He is responsible for the coordination of RTS’s management staff, the company’s direct labour and contract workforce and is the management of the RTS FSC certification scheme. Harry also undertakes the majority of the company’s urban woodland management operations.
Following graduation from Aberdeen University Ross gained experience with the Forestry Commission followed by a year working in Forestry in New Zealand. On his return to Britain he joined RTS in 2005.
Promoted in 2007 to Harvesting and Marketing Manager, and to Director in 2011, his responsibilities include the delivery of RTS's harvesting program throughout Scotland, and the management of RTS’s tree clearance for infrastructure projects with Joint Venture partners M W Herdman Forestry Solutions Ltd.
This successful partnership has delivered contracts in excess of 500,000 tonnes and 3,000 hectares of timber removal for the renewables sector over the past 5 years.
His responsibilities include RTS’s Health and Safety Management Systems. The continual development of the company's systems, using best practice learnt from working within the construction industry, is recognised to have improved further the company’s overall Health and Safety performance and tender success.
After graduation in 2003, and 5 years of industry experience, Robin joined RTS in 2008. His responsibilities include provision of management and silvicultural advice to clients with multiple objectives including commercial forestry, conservation, amenity and sporting concerns With responsibilities for the production and delivery of annual work programs, budgets and compliance with relevant environmental and certification standards he coordinated the efficient deployment of the company management work-force and independent contracting teams.
He played a major role in the development of Woodfuel production at RTS and maintains an advisory input on technical and quality assurance issues.
Robin continues to undertake woodland assessments, tree safety inspections and Arboricultural inspections to BS 5837:2005.
After 7 years in the insurance industry, Mike changed career and joined the forest industry to forestry and, after four years in Aberdeen, graduated in 2008 with 1st Class Honours. Following a further 4 years with Scottish Woodlands in Aberdeenshire, Mike joined RTS to head up the new Aboyne office, under the directorship of Harry Wilson.
He provides forestry consulting, management and contracting services to RTS’s north-east client base, continuing and building on The Ross Partnership’s long standing forestry services in the region, following RTS’s agreed succession of TRP with Irvine’s planned retiral.
Matt graduated in 2007, and after 5 years gaining experience with the Forestry Commission, joined RTS in 2012.
He undertakes the delivery of RTS’s Harvesting and Marketing programmes on client estates and outside timber contracts, with a throughput of over 100,000 tonnes per annum. Matt is responsible for the implementation of the company's Environmental and Health and Safety Management systems and the maximisation of client return from timber harvesting operations. In addition, he is responsible for the procurement of roundwood for RTS’ woodfuel operations.
