Chairman Alan Robbins

Alan Robbins is a professional forester, with a degree from Aberdeen University, who has been practising forestry since graduating in 1975.

Alan and Heather Robbins founded RTS in 1984, and following a successful Management Buyout in 2017 Alan stepped down as Managing Director, retaining his role as Chairman.

In his role as Chairman he provides support and advice to the Managing Director across all the company’s activities.
In addition to his role as Chairman, he maintains an active part in the development of new business and continues his role in Timber Harvesting and Marketing.  

 Director Norman O’Neill

Norman O’Neill has 30 years’ experience in forest management following graduation from Aberdeen University in 1981. 
Norman joined the company in 1999, was promoted to Director in 2004 and was appointed Managing Director in 2017. 

He takes overall responsibility for all the company’s activities, with the majority of his time spent active in the Estate Management and Woodfuel divisions. Norman has responsibility for forest management on many commercial and native woodland properties throughout Scotland. 

With direct responsibility for RTS’s Woodfuel development and operations, including production and sale of conditioned woodchips and firewood, Norman has led the company’s significant investment in biomass production. This culminated in the commissioning of three additional biomass boilers in 2017 to support the expansion of the company’s biomass processing and drying facilities.

Director Harry Wilson

Woodland management

With 30 years of forest management experience following graduation from Aberdeen University, Harry joined RTS Forestry in 2004. His remit and responsibilities include the management of a number of RTS Forestry’s managed high profile private woodland estates and investment portfolios. He has a special responsibility for our Aboyne office and operations in the north of Scotland and has led the significant growth in our activities in the North and North East. 

Harry is responsible for the coordination of RTS Forestry’s management staff, the company’s direct labour and contract workforce. His compliance role includes administering the RTS Forestry FSC group certification scheme.
Harry manages the majority of the company’s contracting operations with a particular specialism in urban woodland design and operations.

Director Ross Kennedy

Following graduation from Aberdeen University, and a period with the Forestry Commission, Ross spent a year practicing forestry in New Zealand before his return to Britain and joining RTS Forestry in 2005. 

He was appointed Harvesting and Marketing Manager in 2007, and Director in 2011.

His responsibilities include the delivery of RTS Forestry's harvesting program throughout Scotland, the management of RTS Forestry’s tree clearance for infrastructure projects and the development of new business opportunities.

In recent years Ross has led the company into significant biomass recovery operations across Scotland, maximising client income.
