Paths, roads and fences

Creation and maintenance of forest roads

The maintenance and creation of a forest road is likely to be one of the most significant individual investments on an estate. The importance of a well-considered and surveyed route for all hill roads and paths is the essential starting point in ensuring the road is fit for purpose and in minimising future maintenance costs. In addition to the physical planning process, new roads and upgraded hill tracks often require Environmental Impact Assessment and negotiations with either the Forestry Commission or planning authority. These negotiations can be complex and time consuming. With considerable experience, RTS Forestry can ensure that this process is as smooth as possible.

In recent years, RTS Forestry has constructed forest roads across restored bogland habitat, on severe hillsides requiring careful planning and implementation, and constructed roads within the boundaries of national parks. We pride ourselves on constructing roads to the highest standards using materials best suited to the situation.

Extensive experience in path construction

RTS Forestry has undertaken a wide range of path construction from small paths within parkland to longer routes providing “all access” through forests. By utilising our low impact plant and machinery for the construction of the footpath, a high specification, hard wearing footpath can be created at a minimal cost.
