Mike joined RTS in 2010 as a machine operator when the Wood Fuel business was in its infancy. This was a great platform for learning the principles of producing Biomass fuels, including how to operate a chipper and the biomass systems used for fuel conditioning. Alongside the Biomass business RTS Firewood was also being developed. Mike was involved in cutting and delivering firewood in those early days.
Some 14 years later, both the Biomass and Firewood departments have become a significant part of the wider business.
Mike now manages the Wood Fuel division and is responsible for all the major functions of the department including:
Departmental budgets and commercial planning
Managing the Wood Fuel customer portfolio which includes the NHS and a number of Local Authorities across Scotland.
Quality Control and Compliance
Managing Health and Safety across production and delivery
Procurement of raw materials and services
Managing the Wood Fuel production and delivery teams at our two depots in Crieff and Glasgow.
Logistics and delivery planning.
Business Development; expanding our customer base and developing new opportunities in sectors including renewable power, carbon reduction and carbon removal, horticulture and agricultural.
Mike represents Wood Fuel Producer-Traders on the National BSL (Biomass Suppliers List) Government Advisory Panel.
Outside work Mike spends his time being a dad, trying to keep fit and enjoys a range of outdoor pursuits including Falconry, Fishing, gardening and walking the dog.
