Following his graduation from Aberdeen University, Ross gained experience with the Forestry Commission and worked in New Zealand’s forestry sector. He joined RTS Forestry in 2005 as an Assistant Harvesting Manager, was promoted to Harvesting Manager in 2007, became Harvesting Director in 2011 and was appointed Joint Managing Director in 2025 as part of the long term succession planning of the company.
In his new Joint MD role Ross continues leading the companies Harvesting and Infrastructure Divisions as his primary focus. RTS are the acknowledged industry leaders in the integration of forestry and infrastructure (windfarm/powerlines) operating across Scotland and Northern England, the breadth of experience the company has gained places RTS in a unique position in taking projects from conception to completion. The company has operated a successful core Harvesting and Marketing Division with dedicated managers servicing all regions.
Ross also contributes to RTS’s infrastructure forestry consultancy team, working on planning, compensatory planting, crop compensation, valuations, and operational budgeting from site identification to public inquiry representation. He has various accreditations and training to support the delivery of his role including SMSTS and NEBOSH.
Outside of work, Ross spends time volunteering with the local scout group and enjoys walking the Munros.
